From the time you were a pup,
My spirits you always did lift up.
Shaggy head, adoring eyes,
You spent your time catching butterflies.
Running, jumping, full of joy,
As you chewed upon your brand new toy.
When you saw me, your tail would wag,
You didn’t care if I’d been good or bad.
Epitome of unconditional love,
Together we were hand and glove.
And everywhere I ever went,
On coming with you were hell bent.
When everybody went away,
You showed me you were there to stay.
When life became a hellish ride,
There you were, right by my side
And when I felt really sick,
My hands you’d come and gently lick.
Now you’re old and really ill,
Of life I know, you’ve had your fill.
You cannot walk, you cannot chew
And sadly I know what I must do.
My cheeks are full of salty tears,
As for the last time I rub your ears.
The needle enters to your vein,
Finally you’re free of pain
Our journey together is at an end,
Rest in peace my faithful friend

Awwww
So sad!
The last two lines simply broke my heart
I loved it though
Thanks for entering and good luck!

You tore my heart apart with this sweet verse. We really do love our pets don't we. We have five and they each give us joy. It pains us now when one of them is ill. Thanks for sharing.
