Empowered by fear and (self) critical judgment profaned
In the desert of purgation life of faith sustained
Seek the ways of God a place of self-confrontation
In our brokendness greater wounds and dimensions
Out of fragility mending fears in the Light of Christ
Mourning grace in persistence of oppression
Burden bearers of soul at the heart of the decisions
In the loving way of Christ a life of love and peace
The healing hand of God in growth and noblesse
Disengaging the values we hold in mobility process
Blown along by the very breath of God fear released

The Bible uses words like fear, afraid, terror, dread, anxious, tribulation affliction, burden and portray 850 times this human emotion. Fear is an immediate and intense internal alarm system alerting us in the presence of danger. It revs up our whole being empowering us for action or paralyzing. We lose heart by succumbing to fear and discouragement. At times it feels like we are living in a war zone.
Psalm 139: 13-14 says "You created my inmost being.. I praise You because I am "fearfully" and wonderfully made". King David recognized God's creative design of our inmost being. Fear is the oldest and strongest emotion of mankind. It is the first human emotion referred to after Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden in Genesis 3. After they disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruit, God came looking for the first couple to take their evening walk together. Adam's response to God's inquiry was "I heard You in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked so I hid" (v. 10) For the first time in their lives fear gripped the hearts of Adam and Eve and in humanity. Safety was lost outside of Eden. Evicted they were forced to face a world of danger and increasing hostility (Gen. 3: 14-19; 9: 2-6)
The apostle Paul describe an internal struggle with fear and dangers of threat "We were harrassed at every turn - conflicts on the outside, fears within" (2 Cor. 7: 5) Jesus warned His followers about living in a dangerous world ".. in this world you will have trouble. But take heart I have overcome the world" (John 16: 33) Peter warn us to be alert to Satan's intimidating tacting terrifying us by his threats to devour us (I Pet. 5: 8) Satan attacks believers with all kinds of false accusations and fear his favorite and old weapon. The devil is the archenemy of God and the demons who serve him. He prey on our natural fear of getting hurt, he devours our joy of loving, keeping us from entering into deep and meaningful relationships. Once we are released from the enslaving fear of worrying how others may or may not respond to us which is often the controlling factor in relationships we will be free to serve God in newness of life (Rom. 6: 4) He is the scheming father of lies (John 8: 44; Eph. 6: 11) Satan attacks believers with all kind of accusations (Job 1: 9-11; Zach. 3: 1; Rev. 12: 10) His "flaming arrows" are designed to wound our hearts and undermine our faith and confidence in God's goodness and His ability to help us when we are struggling with our share of troubles (Heb. 11: 6)
It's in our relationships that we tend to struggle the most with doubts and fears and where there is freedom there is fear. So Satan takes every opportunity to ruin our relationships by inciting fear, doubt and insecurity between us. He exploits our tendency to depend on others more than God for our sense of security and significance. By preying on our natural fear of getting hurt, Satan devours our joy of loving and serving God, keeping us from entering into deep and meaningful relationships. The assaults from these two external enemies the world and the devil can inflame a storm of fear withing us. Because fear involves not only the peril of danger but also the pain of loss. We fear losing anything that we believe is vital to our survival. Losses intensify our fears because we know that it is only a matter of time before we lose everything and everyone we love.
The Bible illustrate the healthiness of self-preserving fear. On many occasions David fled for fear of his life from the presece of a jealous and muderous King Saul who threatened and schemed to kill him (I Sam. 19: 10-12; 20: 1, 42; 21: 10) He wrestled his fears (Psalm 55: 4-8) Paul spoke of the fear of God's final judgment as a powerful motivation in his ministry (2 Cor. 5: 11) Insecurity tied with self-doubt strips us from vitality and zeal to live well. The demand for perfection is often the result of fear. God is greater than all our fears! He desires to empower us (2 Cor. 10: 4) When fear is uprooted and truth implanted we are free to survive and thrive in a dangerous world (John 8: 32) Life is never risk free. But freedom from overwhelming fear enpowers to enjoy all that God offers in a fallen world. Relinquish fear against the forces of evil in strapping a spiritual armor (Eph. 6: 10-18). Paul says The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it" (I Thess 5: 24). "The Lord is faithful and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one" (2 Thess. 3: 3) Cultivate a healthy fear "when i am afraid i will trust in You. In God whose word I praise in God I trust I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me? " (Ps. 56: 3,4) We can live without fear and we can't without the security and significance of a relationship with Jesus Christ (Ps. 73: 25; Jn 6: 35, 68-69) and his undying love for us (Rom. 8: 31-39) Removing fear is possible with personal meditation of the Bible and sincere prayers from the heart. God promise to fight for us (Ps. 56: 3, 4; Rom. 8: 31, 32; Heb. 13:6).
"The Lord is with us. Do not be afraid" (Num. 14: 9) "The Lord is the stronghold of my life of who shall I be afraid?" (Ps. 27: 1) "The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" (Ps. 118: 6) "Do not fear for I am with you" (Isa. 41: 10) Living courageously in the midst of hostility and discouragement requires an unflinching trust in God's sustaining love (I John 4: 18) We are not motivated by fear but by Jehovah God's love the love that conquers All. Sir Francis Bacon concluded "Men fear death, as children fear to go in the dark."

Wow. That was an incredible poem. I have to admit, though. I didn't read all of the author's note.

Write on.
