Tom's

There is always good whiskey at Tom's house
so we often found ourselves there at night.
We sat in his old barn drank and played pool
sometimes til early when the sun came up.
Jimmy Hendrix and Led Zeppelin came alive
over the stereo and the girls danced
while we played pool and watched them
in their tight shorts and tube tops.

Tom was part Mexican, German and Filipino
and he had a lot of all three in him.
We were all cur dogs no one wanted
that's why we fought forest fires
on the side of mountains few would climb.
We were here drinking with the head misfit
in his barn of misfit toys drinking
until we did not care any more.

Kevin became a guitar player with a pool stick
and Kyle was sticking his tongue down Angie's throat.
I was hot boxing a joint with Tom as we
solved the worlds problem always with more pot
and if we could find them some good mushrooms.
Later we may take out our rifles and send
a barrage into the dark hillside. Always
a chorus of dogs began to bark and the phone rang.
Tom's wife would yell "Keep it down!"
Then she would join us as we sang
danced and became one till the morning's light.

    My kind of poetry, Jeff.
You brought me into the barn
and I felt like one of the 'misfits'.
You have told an excellent story
    here. Love, Lane
