Our nation has lasted a thousand years
United by a love of our land,
Our people are of mixed race and creed
United by a common purpose.
Our heritage is born of war
But it has taught us to love peace,
We have stood alone against the storm
And learned the value of friendship.
We value music and poetry
As we love art and literature,
From the green and pleasent land
To the undiscovered coutry.
Our heroes live forever
In the hearts of those who follow,
From the origin of the species
To the brief history of time.
We take who we are for granted
Our nation and our people,
Forgetting that our past
Forges our uncharted future.
Take away all that I own
And I will still be rich,
For I have the soil and soul of England
To call my home.
Author notes
I think the one thing we take most for granted is our culture. What makes us what we are is not our toys or our wealth, it's not our friends or our family. What makes us what we are is our nation and the land, the history that has created us and made us who we are.
