Moon Child

Missing image
This time,
I am the old moon
my daughter the new.

Her belly a lucent sphere
veiled night-shining pearl.
Dreams tangle in her lashes
shadows on alabaster skin.

Hearing a newborn's cry;
I rush to her side and
cradle the child in my arms.
A perfect girl,
heavens breath lingering
on her rose-bud lips.

The sighs of angels
could not be sweeter
or more pleasing.

This child,
shapes my heart as
she lies on my breast.

Oh thank you so much, my new granddaughter is only 1 1/2 months old now so I had something real to draw on writing this. She hangs the Moon.

Such a beautifully tender and touching write. 'Dreams tangled in her lashes' is indeed a fantastic line. I love the imagery portrayed in the fifth verse also. Brought back wonderful memories of when mine were born. Superbly penned, good luck in your contest and congratulations!
