Song for Our Daughter

We depended on her strength
promised assurance.

So much to bear
too young to sacrifice those tender years
for you and me
despite an old man’s plea.

Safeguard wall of gnashing teeth
a gentle buttress of supple silk.
No guarantee agreed
of blood kin’s harmony.

Her gun blue .38
would settle any argument.

this is short and harmonious when describing such family affairs usually kept under covers. i enjoyed the raw idea of emotion conveyed. well placed among short lines. thank you for your submission.
