filigreed
against the onyx sky
she shines
silver
mother of stars
she sings silence
since the term of time
slithers like silk
across the centuries
seek her should your
sleep subside
find her crescent horns
before she fades
beyond eternity
Author notes
The Islamic crescent was taken from the Byzantine symbol for Constantinople -- which became Istanbul when the city was taken; the Blessed Virgin stands upon a crescent moon. Both images came to me as I wrote this poem.

Hypnotic, your alliteration of f's and s's turns simple phrasing into ageless mystery. What thoughts and dreams come to the night watchers!

Most beautiful. Historic and simply lovely. I have learned much here today with this gem that soothes with subtle alliteration and gentle tones. Motherhood of softer skies and tender care.
I am enchanted with the magic and symbolism of such orbs. Well done poet. A pleasure to have poetry of this caliber in my contest. Thank you. ~Pamela

I love this (though read aloud, it's a bit of a tongue twister, so I shall keep silence with it.)

This poem contains dreamy imagery, weaving together gods from different ages and somehow showing me that all belief stems from the awe felt on witnessing beauty.
