“Thank you Mom, the dinner was fine!”
Slam went the door as I went out to play.
“Thank you Dad, for fixing my bike!”
I wiggled a trail of red dust through the clay,
and so the days passed, seemed never ending
with so many places to go …
“Thank you Miss” and “Thank you Mister!”
Whoosh! went the door, my diploma in hand.
“Thank you Sir, your job sounds great and
I'll work real hard - I'm sure that I can.”
and so the days passed, seemed never ending
with so many things to learn …
“Thank you my friend for lending an ear,”
Doors still ajar, I recounted back.
Four in the morning, I’ve made some mistakes
now I have to get back on track!
and so the days passed, seemed never ending
with so many goals to choose …
“Thank you Sweetie for tying the knot and
opening doors as I laid out my heart!”
“Thank you Son, Yes I’ll press your shirt,”
the list goes on and where do I start?
and so the days passed, seemed never ending
with so many chores to do …
“Thank you Reverend ~ Yes I will miss him”
Another door shut, sum total now two!
“Thanks again Mom, for all of your striving
and for living a life that’s honest and true.”
and so the days passed, seemed never ending
with so many thoughts to think …
“Thank you God, I think I am dreaming,”
a wide open door, I see Peter grin,
“Thank you Angels for never questioning,
this is heaven ~ and I really got in!”
and may the days pass unending . . .

as we age we truly learn the meaning of "Thank You" to all those that we encounter along that road to heaven ... it is paved with good intentions!

A wonderful poem of thanks and thanksgiving.

This brought a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye, you captured the true little snapshots of growing up and learning about important things, giving up the superficial, looking inward. Well done. God Bless.

The value and power of the words thank you are amazing. I was grown when I learned to say those words often and sincerely. I wish I had said it to my mother, I'm not sure I ever did. She died on thanksgiving Day oh so many years ago. Perhaps I'll make an agreement with myself that every time I say thank you, a bit of it should go to her account.
Thank you Joy!

Now wait a cotton picking second! Having hit the half century mark back in July, I now see time passing by very quickly, BUT...lets not be digging the grave quite yet! I'm one of the most cynical critters I know but I stop the cynicism at that great big door...I'm leaving that thing shut!
The poem began on a soft note, even a little fondness, a shade of humor but then it comes into shape and I see that whirr, that merry-go-round that you are spinning on...faster, faster, faster...
Oh man, if I close my eyes it feels like I am standing still...and sure enough, that's what I do as much as I can...Ap itself is just a way to close my eyes to ignore that spinning...
Somewhere I want the to be a word of thanks to everyone I have known (who deserve those thanks) and I hope you will accept my thanks too.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Very well done. Not only is this a pleasure to read, it also says something important about the nature of gratitude.
Excellent,

I guess reading this only goes to show that what we start off doing, is returned to be done to us in the end. From being a child and having everything done for us we become the parent and take our turn. But who knows what awaits at the end Maybe even more doors to open and close
A most enjoyable read Excellent
