Home is where the rabbits run free
Home my family waits for me

Home is where the sun shines bright
Home is where living feels right

Home is where my spirit bird flies
Guiding me from across the skies

Home is where the lizards roam
Jigalong is where I call home

Author notes

This poem was inspired by the movie 'Rabbit Proof Fence' about the struggles of three children escaping from the Moore River Native Settlement during the stolen generations.

Have not seen the film, tho' have heard reviews, enjoyed the poem and for me it felt like one was escaping to home and not from arriving at a place of hope and stability. Is one responsible for comments made at 1 a.m.??? after turkey, ham and 3 drinks??? Keep up the good writing.

OH that is a powerful film indeed. I like the use of the repetition 'home' as you carry it through your lines keeping it well in the front of your readers thoughts. A strong reminder of the wrong. Home is family and it is our escape or should be. Way to Go...
