Escape from Skid Row (using Skid Row as a metaphor)

Skid Row isn't glitz and glamour
but there's more to it than meets the eye
for there's a certain allure to it if you will

I'm from a common town
that there's not much to
but it depends on your point of view
guys aren't drips  here
it's scenic most of they year

I'm like Seymour in a lot of ways
with a dream that he's trying to achieve
all though I guess our dreams  are  different
though ultimatey both of our goals
are to  get away from small town life

In our own ways we want
to break free from mediocrity
for  a change
"Show me how  and  I will I'll get out of here"
I'm still in transiton
on my way
just taking things  day by day
(i wouldd make reference to Godspell here but let's just stick to one musical   )
my destination goal is Portmouth
the town by the ocean
I'll get there!

Author notes

option four. i really don't have very many favorite bands anymore.. most of my itunes library is dominated by Broadway Showtunes so I wrote a poem inspired by the song Skid Row (Downtown) from Little Shop of Horrors. It's kind of like a transition poem because i want to eventually move to Portsmouth NH.. so iam Seymour wanting to get out of Skid Row (only my town is not exactly Skid Row but im trying to use Skid Row as kind of a metaphor.) not sure how well that will work. hope it works well for your contest.

  • It works!

I liked the metaphor of skid row. I loved your reference to "Little shop of horrors," which is one of my favorite musicals of all time. I loved it! So much satire and humor there too. Good luck in your adventures and transitions.
