Life is the magic act
with way too many magicians,
they all have their special tricks
to dazzle me with some verbal illusion
showing me a means of escape
from the places
where I live
in front of a theater,
always showing movies
about locations I can’t visit.
The films star people who claim
anyone can find an amusement park to reside,
if you just try hard enough,
believing the mind is a wand
and the heart able to become so happy,
providing you just find that mystical trapdoor,
for escaping what you hate.
It sounded so perfect,
how I craved its secrets could be found
by listening to each actor speak his part,
hoping it would be so convincing
that I would fall through that entryway,
taking me from dull to dream.
I tried so often to follow their directions,
never reaching the prefect spot as promised,
realizing at last,
they spoke through a mask
keeping their eyes closed.
