Aphrodite

God knows I didn't mean to fall in love with her....

But what greater thing
is there for two human souls,
than to feel that they are joined for life---
to strengthen each other in all labor,
to rest on each other in all sorrow,
to minister to each other in all pain,
to be one with each other in silent unspeakable memories
at the moment of the last parting?

Before her,
my life was like a moonless night.
Very dark, but there were stars---
points of light and reason.
And then she shot across my sky like a meteor.
Suddenly everything was on fire; there was brilliancy,
there was beauty.

When she was gone,
when the meteor had fallen over the horizon,
everything went black.
Nothing had changed,
but my eyes were blinded by the light.
I couldn't see the stars anymore.
And there was no more reason for anything....

Then in the night I awoke
and held her tight as though
she were all of life
and it was being taken away from me.

...And now that I've experienced this feeling known as "love",
Never again will I return to life before her.

Author notes

I took certain quotes from the books: Farewell to Arms, Adam Bede, New Moon, and For Whom the Bell Tolls and put them into one poem with some of my own writing to make a rather unique peace or at least I think so.

^That whole stanza captured me entirely. Again with the imagery...Breathtaking.

It's a good poem, but I can tell you copied stanzas 3 & 4 from Twilight (The book). I'm sure you could use them if you gave credit at the bottom but it would sound much better if you used your own words, I'm sure

The whole poem is mostly full of lines from different novels that I just combined into one work. I could of swore I listed them in the Author Notes. Let me do that now. haha

I thought I mentioned it in authors notes, man i feel dumb. haha
I'm sure it would be stupid to try and plagerize a Twilight series novel. bhaha
