A Castle Falling.

The towers rose up through the mist;
Their sadness knew no name
With all detached decorum
Of a crumbling Roman bust.
Decay besieged the castle,
And in its fury came
A thousand mossy soldiers
And generals of dust.

Author notes

Inspired by the picture, and also by my own recent visits to Chepstow and Goodrich.

    Short, yes, though supremely wonderful poem, with the ability to conjure the Past and fill us with awe and wonder.....

    This had a certain feel of abandonment, which seemed to fit this picture for some reason. I really enjoyed reading this. thank you very much for sharing. Best of luck.

    This is nice. It would be a good bit for a fantasy epic.
