visualizing happiness,
as untouchable
as the laughter
outside, beyond
the grimy window.
imagining smiling
for a reason
other than trite
social expectation,
or an order.
reaching through
the space between
the others, and me,
only to encounter
an invisable wall.
retreating, not joining,
not understanding,
we are aliens,
not of worlds, but
of experience.

i really like what you have written here, it really speaks to me, i love the last stanza so much it's so true, great poem, best of luck in the contest

It's true. We live in a state of hyperreality, watching other people live on television screens instead of having our own experiences. We don't know how to interact meaningfully without a television screen nearby or statements about fictional characters on our lips.
