children caress
my myriad likenesses;
so warm
millennia of feet
have burrowed
into my fur;
so peaceful
winter passes
and I sleep on.
Yet might remains,
passion’s unbridled power
dozes
a single heartbeat away -
and those who would awaken
Ursa Major
need but trouble
Ursa Minor!
Author notes
Ursa Major [the Big Bear] and Ursa Minor [the Little Bear] are latin names for the constellations commonly called the Big Dipper and the Little Dipper.
As a mother, the bear is exemplary in protecting her little ones, and nothing arouses her wrath more violently than a percieved threat to her offspring.

Wonderful, I caught the play on symbology right away. I admire how you paint such potent imagery along the way as you lead us to the discovery that always closes your writes. Blue

This is an awesome poem. I like the way you brought out the way you think the bear feels. I enjoyed the read!!! Thank you for entering my contest

The thoughts of a big sleepy mama bear all cozy with her cub, nesting all winter long together, but
one squeek out of the cub that was not caused by a smack of the mother herself and she is on you!
A very nice poem of wildlife.
