So succulent and savory
I thought her love
was a intoxicating cake of honeyed allure,
carrying a sweet scent of iced affections,
spreading over my heart
in sugary perfumed sensations.
Her words glazed me spirit,
how I could inhale that aromatic intensity
within my mind
thinking she had baked the perfect, throbbing pastry.
But its incense faded when her servings
stopped having the same fresh and zesty smell,
their taste became so rancid and odor tainted
after I discovered
she had a passion to share her dessert with many mouths,
allowing anyone to use her oven,
never carrying what ingredients they used,
thinking enough frosting could keep me from noticing.
Leaving her to tend her bakery with so many other patrons,
scent of dessert ever after, a manure unto my nostrils.
Author notes
' I can smell it rotting, when it was once fragrant
