Scratching and scampering
busy mouse sniffs
listens
sniffs and forages.
Seeds gathered and
stowed away for winter.
A harvest to sustain
through harsh cold
when bleak becomes this field.
In spring
children will scamper about ...
listen
scurry
listen
children will ...
Majestic wings soar above fields,
talons tightly gripping fresh meat.
There are young to feed.

I like the different cycles of life compared, and the lesson of nature, red in tooth and claw. Such is life, without sentiment, truly beautiful. Thank you for this entry.

I have often ruminated about the meaning of life while engaged in the tedium of daily living. Does the trip to the grocery, washing dishes, cooking have meaning, I wonder. Life is just a string of things we do in order to survive. The trick is in the attitude.
I like the gentle flow and the outline of greater things. Good luck in the contest. Always a pleasure to read you.

I have seen this and could see it clearly in your poem.
Now if i could get an eage in my house to get that one darn mouse that my fat overfed cat seems to content not to chase
I would be in business lol
Excellent as you always are.

Nature is cruel...kill or die, such is life.

but
the skunk sleeps...
sorry for the political metaphor!

And so it goes, from season to season. Well written, poet!

Interesting and image-filled comparisions between the rustling of children and the busy industry of birds and animals. The cycle of life comes full circle as each species has a specific role to fulfill. Sometimes it is not beautiful, but it is breathtaking. Peace, Liz
