While I await the sudden swat
Of the impending hangman’s knot
Am I expected on the spot
to come up with some clever words?
The hangman knows I’m scared to death,
Soon he will hear my final breath.
I search for something from Macbeth
While tight my arms and legs he girds.
So when he asks my final words,
I blurt out, “Such is Life, you turds!”
Which, with a bit of editing
Turns out to have a gallant ring.

lol! Ned had a quick wit and an Irish temper, and may very well have responded exactly as you say.
I clicked to repay a favour after a comment on one of my poems, and found this contest entry - so you're busted, and no longer annonymous - but I like this, so thanks for entering.

In my quick and dirty research on Mr. Kelly I read that upon being asked for his last words, Ned mumbled in a voice so low that he could not be understood. However this is reported by a warden at the prison and he may have been biased. In any case he was quite a handful and certainly outperformed most U.S. cowboy outlaws.
