He left a single rosebud by my door
The day the RAF took him away
It's safe inside my mem'ry evermore
He left a note beside it on that day
"When war has passed and we are safe and well
I'll bend my knee and ask you for your hand
For if a fairy casts a magic spell
We'll live the life the two of us have planned"
Throughout the war we met when he had leave
And every time he left a single rose
Each night I feared my turn would come to grieve
Before love had the chance to show it grows
But we were wed when peace had been declared
And now at last our roses are all shared
