Failed Attempt to Try

At least we can say we tried
It’s more than I can say for most.
It’s less than I want to say for us.
Trying is not succeeding;
It is only an attempt,
An attempt to become more
We were once more.
Until we faltered
And lost track of what we wanted
What I wanted most.
Out of reach is not an option
It is not even plausible.
You, me, us
It has always been tangible
Except when you close your eyes
Then the distance takes hold
And the future becomes too weak.
It is easier to assume and question
Then it is to accept.
No future is set in stone
What future?
Our future?
