softly then

And I am back in childhood
as long as memories last
until enough footsteps have come and gone
making a path for me ~

and upon the snow
silence fills my head
after I leave the window

where a verse of youth
perched on a distant branch
in an evergreen dress

wears itself
upon my skin

only a few spaces in between

Author notes

Sitting on Boulders at Deep Cove

we unwrap daybreak
like an unexpected gift
our bodies so close we feel each other's thoughts
our mouths exhale horizon
sun folds her wings
her warmth sleeping in the heart of wood

i like how you chose winter over summer in opposition to the prompt's poem, and how you touched on the distance we all feel between our past, present, and future selves

most people think in terms of "I", but the truth is, we are "we"

    thanks for this intriguing entry

This is lovely poetry and I especially liked the weave of natural and human qualities here...nature is indeed the best metaphor for human emotions. There is a soft nostalgia about this poem that really speaks to me.

"verse of youth" - loved that line! I really liked this poem... thank you for this lovely entry.

This is beautifully penned...the imagery leaves that feeling of innocense...like the way the beauty of morning entrances. lovely penning!
