Ducks Don't Have 'em

Red rubber boots,
holes for heels;
bread bags
held up with rubber bands
kept shoes dry.

Slogging through slush,
moths tumbling toward glowing
promise of warmth

once school bell rang!

    I had black rubber boots with the buckles. Kept my toes dry and my mother happy!

    I remember plastic bags over my feet, secured the way you describe. I also recall my Mom tracing our feet onto cardboard to cut out and put in our shoes (or boots?)

    Just came to mind when I read this. Had forgotten all about it!

    Fun poem and memory.

    I love this! Such innocent childlike joy in simple comforts. You paint a complete scene with emotion and nastalgia with so very few words.
