The Gravel to Jacqueline's House

The gravel flies across the burning road
and cuts into my feet as I dash to you,
to my home, my only, my own.

I hear their words but my heart stays strong
I know you're thoughts and they are wrong
about us who've been together so long.

You hand me a mug and we quietly laugh
along with your quiet house, quiet doors,
quiet language we only know of our eyes.

Nine summers ago the gravel cut into me
and now nine years later, sisters is what they see
we know that we are, that's how it will always be.

I finish your sentence for you, you smile
gently, I know you are so scared of speaking,
reminding me that I am strong so you can be meek.

Their words, their looks, their thoughts, their eyes
we know the truth, you look downward. I glare and despise
their pain, their own fault, their idiocy, their lies.

There have been times when things came between
but we have overcome and that makes it worth it
we are closer now, moving together in synchronized thought, never alone.

Another favorite song of ours begins,
separated by age and birth, still soul twins
who laugh at the memories of our favorite sins.

I have something to admit
that if there was no her, there would never be I,
and its true when they say "Best friends are two bodies, one soul"

Author notes

My best friend has very sharp and painful gravel on her driveway and around the road near her house (only a few houses down from mine). But its totally worth ever bit of stone stuck in my shoe just to be with her for a few hours.
