am i godless
because you say so
because you say i live a sinner's life
or
are you not
just as godless
for judging me
without perfection at your side
am i godless
because you throw stones
thump your bible in my face
and i've yet to rise
but
to throw back truth
and what you care to forget
to overlook
in your scriptures
am i godless
because i fell in love
and coveted a heart
that you think should be persecuted
and dead on a cross
martyr for sinners
or are you godless
for wishing death
harm's grip
satan's kiss
on those who don't fit into your perfect white wonderland
am i any less godless
than you
just because i don't throw around dead quotes
and watch preachers
who rape little boys
tell me i'm going to hell
does that make me satan's spawn
your worst nightmare
because i am what i am
and don't pretend to be a saint
at god's right hand
and don't pretend to know everything
but
live my life as it comes
to the best of my ability
as you thrive on cutting me back
to the gates of hell
in which your bible
never spoke of mine attending
and won't your eyes burn
just as brightly as mine
in the pits of flames
roasting for eternity
for judging that in which we couldn't see
because you say so
because you say i live a sinner's life
or
are you not
just as godless
for judging me
without perfection at your side
am i godless
because you throw stones

It is true that professing Christians (particularly in America) are naive, judgmental, unloving, and either baby Christians who choose not to follow God's will to love as Jesus loved or simply profess Christ and thump the Bible not knowing God at all (see Matthew 7:1-5,21-23 -please actually read it because it really relates to what this poem is saying. Here's a link: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%207:1-5,21-23;&version=31). So in fact those like those in Matthew 7:21-23 are Godless yet still profess to have done things in God's name. As 1 Corinthians 13:2 says, 'If I don't have love, I am nothing.'
God himself said in Jermiah 13:11 "Both prophet and priest are godless; even in my temple I find their wickedness," declares the LORD.
God wasn't talking about every prophet and priest throughout time but He acknowledged that there are godless ones out there.
The Bible is absolute truth and though no man can fully know it, one can relay its truth which does offend because of people's pride and sin. And someone is godless if they have not made Christ their life by admitting they have sinned, accepting his gift of death on the cross as payment and forgiveness of their sin, then surrendering their will to God to let Christ live through them.
So whoever hasn't done that is godless (at least of the one true God that is Jesus Christ my Lord) -
this is sort of fighting fire with fire, isn't it? it's a great write though. the ending says a lot - perhaps you should elaborate on it to better make your point on "that in which we couldn't see"?

BRAVO!!!!!
You have seen the hypocrisy of the Christian Cult!
Kind of eye-opening isn't it?
This was a very gutsy write given the topic!
Be careful! People may be sharpening their spear for a barbeque where you are the main course! LOL
Nicely done
Best regards

hmm
I'm not sure exactly how I feel about this poem. At first I took offense because I think it highlights the misconceptions of religious people and the stereotypes about said "bible thumpers." If you are trying to write a poem about that precise group of people, then I think you achieved your goal. It is thought provoking for me, but maybe not in the way you intended. Props for writing a religious poem, I think it's a risky task, but you described the position well.

Good poem
Being a christen i can agree with it totally because we are not all how you describe but i also can say that there aren't those who call themselves christens tha6t this poem fits perfectly. but its a great poem. good work -
mmm. lovely.
being of the sapphic inclination as i am, i get bible-thumped at more than i'd like, and i only wish i could rebuke the buggers as eloquently as this. -
