Bitter Lips

shelter creeps
in pastel shadow,
blueshade seeping through
magnolia silence;

hope’s last darkhouse
in a lightened sea.

Author notes

Has anyone seen Magnolia? The film?

Tell me the truth, if you read comment, I don't care what you say.

Like does this need more.

The answer is usually yes. Say it people. YES.

Oh yeah, I stole from the picture, it was just so amazing. Please tell me I can credit you for it.

I haven't seen the movie - but this poem is very powerful on its own I really like the atmosphere that you create with the colour words - which were chosen well ... the separation of the ending adds a nice emphasis without being too choppy I enjoyed this piece very much!

No, I haven't seen the movie but I did enjoy this poem. Short, sweet. Thought provoking. It never fails to amaze me how you can be so concise and use so few words. Personally, I don't think it needs further explanation. Too many words would overpower the piece totally.

    Nicely done.

I haven't seen Magnolia in a while, but it's a pretty cool film.

I like the use of color in this to describe visually and emotionally. It's vague in its briefness, yes, but I think it works for this. The mood you create is unusually strong for how short this is, actually.

I also like the ironic and otherwise unexpected word combos. It makes for some very ethereal imagery.

I wanted to write about finding solace in the picture's (on the contest page) blue eyeshadow, like after a long and depressing poem, like that smile at the end of Magnolia..I dunno if I make any sense =/

Thank you ethereal = awesome word

I forget what happens at the end of Magnolia. Do they show all the characters smiling in harmony or something? (Sadly I'm envisioning the end of Legend when all the mythical creatures are smiling and waving from the other side of a gully... and there's a Tangerine Dream song playing...)
