Reflections on a Thanksgiving morning

Awaken to this autumn dawn
as gray sifts off the scene
to unveil a sight so grand
tranquil, still, serene

The trees all dressed so regally
in buff and brick and gold
are such a lovely sight to see
a treasure to behold

For one and every sense they bring
a memory to birth
that swells the heart within me
at the splendor of the earth

Before she goes to sleep once more
through winter cold and bleak
the mother give me tapestries
of sensuous mystique

with mums of rust and copper red
and sages violet, sweet
sorrel blooming, tempting fawns
from out the woods to eat

And crows upon the soggy fields
where corn stalks still are standing
they turn and call out to the day
before a comic landing

And, as the sun climbs to the sky
to bathe the fields in gold
my soul enriched rejoices
as this vision does unfold

So I will rise with anxious thought
to meet this day so fine
and thank the Lord for this, my lot
a morning so Divine.
