Why did you come back?
Why do you ask questions like these when you know
What grew out of the heart of the matter has long since died
Withered and stripped bare
Stained by the sun to the color of bone
And its hold on me is still strong
Please forgive me, but it just might be best
If we remember each other as dreams and nothing more
If you’ll let the tendons snap
I’ll let you go without trying again
And if you’ll let me fall again
I won’t try and catch myself
Please forgive me if you see what I’ve done
Because at this point its hold on me is still strong
When everything else about us is broken
