Cold Dawn Breaks

As frosted window panes
watch you leave again
before the light of day
does start to warm them

I turn in my bed
now alone
your fading warmth
a dim reminder
of your tender embrace

A silent tear slips
from sleep heavy lid
the dawning ache
a chill in my sodden breast
does nothing to replace your warmth

I know it is what it is
I know it is all it can be
clinging to each other
in unstable, fragile places
between fantasy and reality
Friends of the truest sense
and enemies of true loves blessing

The dawn breaks cold
and my heart is still aching
for someone who can cherish me
always
as I will always cherish you
in silent agony

I always find myself thinking the most right before I fall asleep and when I first wake up. It's the best time to let your mind wander. I always thought of unrequited love as NOT having the one you want, but pieces like this have shown me it can also exist in a current relationship. great write!! Good luck and thanks for entering!!
