A Late Latin Hammer and a Babylonian King

Missing image

A late Latin hammer

born of the efforts of claw-like visions

in a netted hanging canvas

depicting a Babylonian king

caught between goblet and pig

his palace built by sacked bodies kept as pets

hamstrings cut in a past-tense way

by hook-like projections at the end of a bone,

transliterated by a group in China

noted for unifying and expanding controlled territory

and making declarations with the terminal part of the human arm

in never-ending efforts while wearing special gloves

grasping carrying poles for the instruction manual

wheeled through hoops with distinguished dexterity

beating with a stick asymmetrical images that need castration…

An unidentified number of small magnifying glasses

gripped for combat

designed to alleviate tension and anxiety

and improve one’s chances of winning

functioned in a world of disabilities

published in Old English from a mountaintop

in an easy manner,

the efforts and actions worn as decorative articles,

doubling as nose wipers in a court of law…

The radio operator manipulated the dials

and hatched a curved metal steering rod

which was placed in an exhibit adjacent to theatrical dogs

prepared by machines

discarded along with food and clothing at a tremendous rate;

by pressing on an indentation

a puppet was able to operate a small saw with no trouble

and expressed good wishes for the new year,

legally transferring non-interventions

with ceremonial gestures pleasing in appearance,

then used as a lever to flip essentials completely over

while in transit between mouths

hidden in a basket woven by hand and balanced in distress

by manually adroit men who were also musicians and composers

who did odd jobs and small tasks for the merchantmen…

At Pete’s Tavern trade fell from above
from a tremendous height,

and finding no impediments, loosed itself in galleries

disguised as flower shops

until the grip slackened and hats drooped downward;

despite their illness and inclination to be suspended in motion

they spent their time idly on the telephone,

slow to fire, sheltered by calmness, sustained by perseverance

and hung from the belt with sycophants…

The execution was swift on the gallows,

the letters resembling a kite gliding on guesses

partially detached, frequently visited by merchandisers

for powerful kingdoms and old Norse lords

addicted to illicit sexual activity

and routing armies in conquests of centuries…

Author notes

hmmm... perhaps I digressed a bit too much for the contest... lol

Historical Figure: Hammurabi, and how his influence has trickled down in history.

and funny how a writer can shape a reader’s opinion of things; in this abstract piece, there are many things, and for each one I had to decide which way I wanted to reader to feel, how to shape the reader’s opinion and emotion, view and perception; it is most effective (insidious?) when presenting something new, for that’s when generalizations and stereotyping occurs… for example, take Obama’s new Treasury Secretary- whom the man in the street never head of- the liberal papers jumped out to put a positive light on the guy in an attempt to jump in and shape our generalized opinion before anyone else does (which often becomes our “core” beliefs, our instinct and intuition). Insidious, I know! It is referred to as 'brainwashing'...
