O, say can you see?
The stuff on my shoe, what could it be?
A peice of old gum?
Or spit from a bum?
What ever it is, it's very sticky,
And it smells extremely iky,
When I touch it, it hisses at me,
So I continue to wonder, what could it be?
When I step on the ground it screams,
When I try to take it off it shoots red beams,
If I step in a puddle it shrinks,
When I put it in the sun it blinks!
What ever it is, it's scary,
And I've had it so long, its getting hairy.
I've been thinking about what I should name it,
Or maybe I should tame it?
The gunk on my shoe has become a friend,
But sadly it's life came to an end,
While I was at school one day!

The beginning made me think of the National Anthem, and it really added to the humor of this piece. I enjoyed reading and laughing along to this poem you have written. Excellent write and good luck in my contest. You are a finalist.
