Athiest's Spirit

Thit Thut
My gentle footfall quitly becomes the loudest sound
Prayer was said to be when night descends over the mind
However no one ever said what happens when the mind willingly meets the night
Stands there patiently without fright
Would God appear or perhaps strike up conversation?
Of course not, that would be schitzophrenia.
And beside that, in the beginning man created God
And has been horribly confused about the relationship ever since.
Still, I gaze into the night, and meditate on the stone
My precious priceless peaceful little rock
What is a rock?
Is a rock a rock because I call it a rock?
What is it hiding behind it's clever little veil
What am I hiding about it from myself behind that worthless quaint formality?
How does that relate to me?
It is time, I must undress myself of the linens of make believe abstractions
So I can see me, as varnished as beautifully ugly with the redemption of sin as I may be.
The rock is as it is, and does not need my permission to be its natural self
In fact I believe in a dream it chided me for desiring to be like it
And the world through these unfettered eyes
So breathtaking in its honest beauty
To look through the invisible veils and see the people for their humanity.
Walk the path that I must walk to achieve that which I desire to achieve
Respect my freedom by respecting the freedom of others
We are only prisoners by our own device.

Author notes

Ok, This is a spritual contest, I am an athiest who is at least somewhat into the metaphysical side of philosophy. I went out on the skinny branches of the limb for this contest. But, I do feel that it does have a spiritual side to it in a sense.

i certainly enjoy your take on what i have challanged here, at first i wasn't sure about it, but now that i've read it a couple of times it does have a spiritual aspect to it, without being about a religon, and shows respect to people who do believe thank you for the entry!

An interesting write for an atheist, but after all, that is just a word, too. I liked very much, "To look through the invisible veils and see the people for their humanity." That, I think, is a true expression of spirituality. I enjoyed reading this@
