You told me to count the days.
Made sure that I marked each
one off on the calendar that’s
still laying in the middle of the floor.
I bring this news to you
with utter regret
and full responsibility.
I lost tomorrow.
You said it was all right
yet blamed me for my faults.
I swayed to every one of
your whims and fancies –
hoping for remembrance of
my perfections.
But nothing I wish for ever happens.
You left the tomorrow I lost;
leaving me with my flaws and
no sight of the positives.
You stripped me of my trust.
Trust in that tomorrow
will always be better.
Because I lost tomorrow
and count the passing by yesterday.
Don’t you dare come back today.
