Being colored and all,
I know how it is to be late.
You wouldn't believe
How many times I've lost a date;
No matter how early I leave,
There's always a car, train or something
That makes a fool out of me.
When I get to where I was to be,
People are shaking their heads, whispering,
"Wonder how late to her own funeral she's gonna be?"
I'm left looking like they thought I would,
Condemned to forever and always be late
My explanations never quite understood.....
I know it's bad and should be considered a crime,
When being late
Is referred to as being on Colored People Time...

GUILTY
I was always late no matter how hard I tried not to be. The only way I wasn't late was to get where I had to be very early and that was a pain. Seems the older I got though the better I got with this being punctual thing. I think that is in part because I married an obsessive compulsive person who aggravates the crap out of me about being on time so I do it to keep his mouth shut. Your poem is good, I enjoyed reading it. -

We ain't never late for payday. I'm always late for everything but payday. I like this poem and the truth that you tell in it. It's sad but it's true. Keep writing and I'll keep reading.

How true is that...People at work always make fun of me for being late...it should be a crime...But I am doing better now at least I try to. But the funny thing is that Indian folks have IPT and Asian folks have APT so it aint just us!!! But this is great and better place!!!! Good luck

Well I really hate to say this but this is true! Although I have never been late to anything it must be the white side of me since I do have that race in me LOL! But for the most part its true
