Grandma seems so cheerful today
She started cooking the bird
Up way before the dawn’s first ray
She rattled the pots, I heard
There always a big breakfast first
But never lunch that day
I heard a mumbled word she cursed
That not her normal way
Eggs, slab bacon , her fresh baked bread
Sure holds you till the meal
Gram sure knows how to lay a spread
I followed on her heals
She started drinking orange juice
Must be her favorite drink
She seemed today a wee bit loose
Threw Grandpa a great big wink
The dinner caused a few beached whales
As grandkids cleared the mess
The grownups told the family tales
Some spoken with huge success
It seemed Grandma was in her zone
The loudest of the group
That’s when I found her peach schnapps thrown
Behind the back door stoop

The imagery in this poem is fantastic! Now I'm hungry! The wonderful meter and rhyme gives this poem a real holiday feeling. Bravo!

Love it, heheheheheh This was so typical of the older generation in our more sedate days. When grandparents and parents never di anything out of place as far as children were concerned. I caught out my not so perfect Grandmother a few times. LOL Of course they always denied it didn't they. LOL
Excellent poem from a brilliant poet.

Thank you
Of course, it is my wife; you see I have been married 42 years and now she is a Great Grandmother. What does that make me... Nah... can't be so!
