Go through the motions- just a job, I smile at people- tap the keys,
around me all a fuzzy blur, a nagging ache around my knees.
Books shelved and tidied in a row, stand to attention on the rack,
things regimental and just so, must try to keep my mind on track.
The noise invades my tired head, just empty echoes on a thread.
Out in the workroom people talk, all paper's filed and boxes ticked,
stare at the screen but nothing's changed, this time I thought I had it licked.
My busy colleagues come and go, they talk and laugh between their toil,
such sounds are are alien to me, deep down inside the tears boil.
The noise invades my tired head, just empty voices on a thread.
Author notes
Sometimes you think that immersing yourself in work to blot sadness out will help-but today it didn't.

As we get older we all get to this place eventually. You wonder how to just keep putting on foot in front of another. It is a good write though Hilly and many will see themselves in it too.
