Darkness spreads her wings across Sister Moon
and all is quiet on Lassiters ridge
For many years the Wilderness had been without
But they had returned
Returned to hunt the wild animals and renew the call
the pack gathered showing respect to him
Tails in submission snarling greetings of bond
Upon the rock a lone shadow stands motionless
all of a sudden a loud howl begins and chorus answers
It is the song of the wolf announcing freedoms night
a challenge to any that just might aggress and fight
He the leader and she his mate calls to the pack
Silent shadows gather and the beast unawares
Snap of a twig and the chase is on
Outnumbered and out witted the great beast falls
A scream then a tearing of flesh, snarling, yelping
Then an almost silence but somehow disturbed
He is home brothers and sisters of the canine clan
And he rules the night with jaw and fang
In shadows he roams with pack unseen nor heard
But eyes of fire see all the night creatures surmise
And the wilderness welcomes her canine children

Superb
I really appreciate the fine imagery, which your words created. I write most of my poetry in parks.
And do have a love for the outdoors, and I'm a bit of a lone wolf, so I could relate to this write. Thanks for sharing. -
Beautiful poem through and through. you really made the aspects of a wolf come alive and i must say that the singing of the wolves is what i love the most about them. it's so beautiful and so sad when you hear the cry of the fallen...good luck.
