Listen

They gathered together in militia to turn back the savage
attacks of the French and Indian's who invaded from the north
then returned to their individual farms their crops to gauge
before once or even more times to war sallying forth.
Listen to their voices; they cry for peace their heirs to engage.

They fought the worlds greatest power to a standstill
these clerks, farmers and printers who would be free.
With blunderbusses and pikes they defended both hill
and valley hiding to fire from cover in forests tree.
Listen to their voices. Speak out when cowards are still.

They fought one another to keep the land as one
proving that secession was no concept for the free.
They insisted that even for the hated justice be done
and left a better more united land bought with blood for you and me.
Listen to their voices filled with pride that all had won.

They volunteered in droves to fight a distant bloody war
in which casualties were awful and mustard gas was used.
They witnessed carnage in the trenches never seen before.
But in a fight for freedom never asked that they be excused.
Listen to their voices calling for the final end to all war.

A call to arms sent six million American men to stop Hitler,
Mussolini and Tojo that alliance of hate and global fear
that involved nearly every nation in battles terribly bitter
across both shielding oceans. That they had to win was clear.
Listen to their voices; never let despotism ever sparkle or glitter.

Wars both small and large have been stopped by us over
and over again. Korea, Vietnam, Granada, Desert Shield and Storm,
Afghanistan and Iraq. Wars are never going to be clover
and peace does need for all the souls on earth to become the norm.
Listen to their voices; never give up, for peace recover.
