I’ve found myself abed these many nights,
denied the steady tread of sleep’s approach;
I hear instead the restless thoughts encroach
with burning pyres of phantom light
with phantom sounds, and time’s nostalgic gaze:
close by the clock proclaims a heavy toll,
a purgatory claim for wand’ring souls -
it beats a mournful dirge for perished days.
Yet, though they die, they find a constant place
in twilight hours, in time’s abandoned halls
where evermore they haunt an empty dais
until the final act: the curtain falls.
The clock calls out,
and through the window morning gleams.
I close my eyes, and guiltily return to dreams.
Please tell me what you think

A gorgeous poem filled with thought and feelings. You used some really brilliant contrasts and comparisions to create your metaphors too. I also noticed a very distinct iambic flow that makes it even more of a pleasure to read and re-read.
s and best wishes always... ~Genie~

The first thing that I would say is that the poem is on a very hard background to read it on. But still, I think the background reflects the poem quite nicely. There shouldn't be any guilt in returning to good dreams. Life is overrated, heh. Dreams are the stuff that.. dreams.. are made of, hehe. Anyway, you've done a great job capturing the essence of the night and bringing it across to the readers in brilliant imagery. Thank you for this poem, keep up the great work. I look forward to reading more from you in the future!
