atp...Pea-soup Fog

Missing image

View from London hotel

out the window 'Pea Soup Fog'

The morning was damp and dreary

Frightening to a stranger abroad

from the fog

Appeared the bell ringer

cape, top hat and active bell

News he sang, 'All's well'

Big Ben tolls in the background

my mind a misty fog...

Author notes

Carl Sandburg's short poem "THE FOG comes in on little cat feet."
Where do you step, when you can't see your feet, I ask?

    Well...

We do not get real pea-soupers anymore. They were a greeny yellow, and on one occasion, I recall truly not having been able to see my hand properly in front of my face. They were terrible for health, as they derived from the coal fires of the city, which we all used to have. The Government passed the Clean Air Act which meant you could only have coke or a kind of low-fat coal, and the fogs improved v quickly. All v romantic, and Fanny by Gaslight or Sherlock Holmes, but even I would not wish back that - except maybe once or twice for nostalgia. Nice little thing, and hope yoou enjoyed your stay.
