Memories of Thebes

An ancient melody emerges from the distance
where the disk of the Sun glows like gold
as an Egyptian sails on a ship journey down the Nile.
Dewdrops glisten on breath-taking lotus flowers
that bloom with Kemetic pride.
Their petals reach out to catch glimpses of sunlight.
The heat - it is almost unbearable,
and so the Egyptian wipes off sweat form his forehead
as he gazes across the river and sighs.
"The view is amazing. This is Thebes," he thinks,
"the city of lights and passion!"
..And many sensual nights.
His memories of Thebes are hectic,
the taste of it still lingering in his mouth.
Loud noises, dusty air, hot sand -
all of that which captured his heart.
Its essence unforgettable,
its scent heart-warmingly familiar.

And so he is carried by the Falcon's wings
in his daydreaming of the beautiful Nefer:
Beloved of Ma'at, Daughter of the Gods.
Soon, he would visit Karnak by camel.
Soon, he would see the Valley of the Kings
and the garden of Egypt - their very own Eden.
He had witnessed the Pharaoh's dream
on many roads, many travels.
The Egyptian held his fist firmly
against his sunkissed chest:
"And I will never forget the time I spent..
in the field of reeds, at the festival dance,
in the service of our Pharaoh." He nodded.
He wiped his forehead once more..
for now he was determined to fix his gaze
on a new mission: to find the jewel in the desert
in honour of his memories of Thebes!

Inspired by my favourite book Sinuhe the Egyptian.
