Femininity laced in dark mystery,
holding the secrets of their lives,
a tradition metaphor for complete submission
unto the cloth of their beliefs.
One face of culture’s gender
hidden and kept so very private,
some uphold it is sacred,
others a fabric to shackle the heart,
lips never allow to speak their truth
from underneath their linen mask.
Author notes
chuddah
n a large shawl or veil worn by Muslim or Hindu women that covers them from head to foot
(from Hindi caddar, from Persian chaddar)

A very informative piece you’ve done here. I can clearly see the images in my mind as I read through it. It flows fairly well and leaves me with a lovely impression of the old world meeting the new. Great job.

exquisite, my friend. I especially
adore the last two lines of this poem.
