Calling Cards ....A Smile, A Rose

Beneath the light of God’s love
he flew heaven’s sky path
while his shadow walked the line

led him to writing ‘The Trade’
tending the bar at ‘Dave’s Place’
last stop between heaven and earth

reaching out across the world
bringing  balance and calm
to life’s confused chaos

stilled raging voices with his words
in friendship’s love we spoke
sharing snippets of our lives

smiles and roses, coffee and wine
talked of politics, God, grandchildren,
children, work, poetry, cooking

the stupidity of  society
insanity of life’s injustices
building sheds and renovations

Sable, man’s best confidant and friend
she was  much more to you  than a pet
God and dog both have ears to listen

you once said you were the hand
moving  the pen across the page
orders from above guiding your pen

those treasures you leave behind
words locked within lines
held firmly inside hearts

golden threads of memories
there is a new angel in heaven
waiting there with a ….smile.

Dedicated to my friend ‘Rustynite’, Robert David Stone. Moses.

Author notes

This contest is a tribute to the man we know as ‘rustynite’. I want to thank Talking Toni for hosting and those people who have given points. So much more could I say about this modest man, his influence, our friendship or the sorrow of his passing. He will live on through his words.

I request my entry be excluded from judging please.

    Touching

A tribute to a friend is always a moving thing, the passion seems to seep out of this one. A moving piece with an original "melody".
    Bravo dusty.

Mook dear...I have been thinking of him, and how if he still has his page, I must get back and read again...He made quite a difference around here even though I had just got to know him...his humor impressed me, but obviously a lot more than I knew he has contributed to many...Such an impressive write and deserving of the gold trophy!

    What A Tribute...

from someone who obviously was very close to David....He was calm and not pushy with his poetry...He simply made his point and it was usually based on his biblical principles. But he was kind and gentle with only kind things to say and you bring all of his qualities front and center in this tribute...What a wonderful friendship you two must have shared!!! I thank you for your entry but this piece MUST be considered for a prize because that is what this contest is for...Those who REALLY knew David and it is quite clear that you did, quite well!!!! Thanks for such a warm and loving entry!!!!~~~Toni~~~

Toni as host for this contest I respectfully leave the decision up to you on the judging of my entries. It is the tribute to 'Rustynite' our friend and fellow poet.
