I'm gonna leave that bitchy ho
And walk the highway 'till I die
I've paid my bill, am bound to go
I'm gonna run -- "vo-do-de-o" --
And play some blues beneath the sky
I'm gonna leave that bitchy ho
Maybe go to Chicago
Or New Orleans where it be dry
I've paid my bill, am bound to go
Hot mama got me feelin' low
But I won't trip and I won't cry
I'm gonna leave that bitchy ho
She told me that she'd call the po'
If I don't leave -- I gotta fly!
I've paid my bill, am bound to go
And I'm a-lookin' at the snow
I know its cold, it aint July
I'm gonna leave that bitchy ho
I've paid my bill, am bound to go

"I got the key to the highway,
and I'm billed out and bound to go."

Your jocularity is so sorely missed, Julien. This is a prime example of what you could do in order to bring a smile to faces that needed one so. I would imagine you'd sing it in such a way as to bring laughter to many, to cause yourself to laugh at how seriously we all seem to take ourselves sometimes. Always, a pleasure to witness your mirth, and to know that you did, indeed, find pleasure in your writing.

This is delicious!
A unique villanelle I'm certain. I don't think, no I know, I have never seen so many high quality villanelles in one place as seem to fall out of your pockets wherever you walk.
Great stuff.

Thank you very much, Jeff.

Oh yes, so strong and sure - and Chi-ca-go and New Orleans have a lot of highway between them, a lot of travelling.
Perfect form, authentic voice - you the man!

I think I can safely dub you the King of the Villanelle! You have taken this time tested form and made it your own.
"vo-do-de-o" and "Chicago" hehe... I love it!
Love,
Amera♥

"Crazy words, crazy tunes, all that George could croon and swoon was Vo-do-de-o, Vo-do-de-o, do!"

I don't remember but I remember Betty Davis in All about Eve: "I'd love to kiss you but I just washed my hair."
