Love's Epitaph

The pieces of our love
Scatter on the chill wind
Like fallen autumn leaves
Before the winter snow
Covers all traces of what
We once treasured most
And your last words echo in
My ears as I stand all alone

Such is life
Such is love
So it goes.

Where the flames of our
Passion once burned
Now only cold ashes lay
On an abandoned hearth
And my heart once filled
With joyous songs
Now only beats out the
Lifeless epitaph

Such is life
Such is love
So it goes.

To lose someone you loved this much is really painful. But, like you say in this poem, such is life and such is life. Life goes on and on and on.. no matter what we may want to do to stop it. This poem really speaks to me because I've lost a few people that were this close to me in my own life and have gotten to the point where I accept that this is how life will go. It's a bit pessimistic, but in the end rather truthful. I like that you don't try to sugar coat that. Such is life. You've got a gift with words and I hope to read more from you in the future, so please keep posting more of your work here! :

'So it goes' used with a double meaning - wonderfully done. I like Vonnegut, and the display here of the same pretended indifference while showing the effects of loss. Thank you for this entry.

A love carelessly tossed aside, with such callousness. The three lines sum it up so perfectly.

The sadness of losing a love, well worded through metaphores in vivid imagery. The repeating second and fourth stanzas add to he hopelessness of any reconciliation, exaggerating the cold stark lonliness felt in the wake of separation. Well written...alby

"So it goes". It's my motto on life. Kurt Vonnegut makes everything better, but your poem hardly needed it =]

    "Such is life

I like the rhythm this adds to the poem. Quite a clever device.

The truth in this is enough to make a reader cry.
Think what it does to one who's been there!
