She woke up one day and knew
living in monotone was a thing of the past.
She stared at the ceiling, familiar with every crack,
every flaking chip of eggshell white enamel paint.
Her world had long ago merged into a neutral blend of nothingness.
Climbing out of bed she stepped on the cold white linoleum floor and
squared her narrow shoulders with resolve.
Today she would shake up her world, it was now or never.
She padded over to the white lacquered Chinese chiffonier, opened the middle drawer and pulled out a black revolver.
The nickname for the colt .45 made her smile, "peacemaker."
The weight of the shiny black gun in her small pale hand felt comforting.
Walking downstairs, she entered the gleaming white kitchen decorated in black and accented with stainless steel appliances.
"Harry" was all she said to the grey-streaked dark head
reading the morning paper.
When he turned to face her, she squeezed the trigger.
She watched a hole appear in the middle of his forehead and thought,
"everyone's black and white needs a little red."

Well, this was certainly twisted, though I loved the name of the gun the most. "Peacemaker"; what brilliance! Indeed, I think I'll be giving up the paper for a while as well!
Oddly-enough, this did run through my head like a black and white film, with only a dash of scarlet at the end. I'm usually not a fan of prose as much as poetry, but this is done well and a thoroughly-delicious read, from the first bite to the last swallow
Well done & thanks for entering!

I could almost hear some soft jazz music playing, as she woke up...could envision Angelina Jolie playing this part...I loved the ending, a marvelous twist on "BLACK and WHITE"...

Uh...wow. Quite dark. The last line adds an absurdly dark humor to it. The descriptions in this poem are awesome, I think you did a great job with this poem.
