the shy that stays inside

even my sense of comfort
is switch-hitting these days
i can run around naked
in front of eyes i hardly know
but then bundle myself away
when a question catches me
tipped-toed and balancing
on that oh-so-thin line

it is the perpetual movements
of north and south
that pull at my core
and send me into a panic
when the connectors
are not matching up
and i am staring at your jawline

and what are affairs anyhow
but lustful leaning on borrowed time
and who am i to say no
to secrets held in ears
and the thrill of it all
even if only in my head

I like this piece. It's full of unease, longing, nerves. The middle stanza does a very good job of describing a bi-polar panic attack, the "naked in times square" alien feeling that overtakes sometimes when you don't feel comfortable in your own skin.
Or any other situation where you're pulled in multiple directions for that matter. I really dug your flow on this piece, it seems effortless for a work on what I perceive to be about effort, and willful restraint in the face of different urges. Keep at it.
