Such is Life #

Hard work and frugal living
Means the future is assured
Until the bank is emptied by that
Dissappearing spouse.
          Such is life.

You put much time and effort
Into educating all your kids
Then one dies from an overdose,
Another's on the skids
          Such is life

You battle all your working life
To relax with a safe old age
Comes that financial crash
You just contain your rage.
          Such is life

Now you live on welfare, well you exist
No payments now for taxes, insurance or such
Live a quiet, peaceful life
Away from all the rush.
        Such is life

You have changed, your needs are less,
You see each other's point of view
Now your life is truly blessed.
No one can worry you.
        Such is life.

This poem tracks the common disappointments of life, then turns about to show the blessing of wisdom gained. Thank you for this entry.

Life is like a roller coaster, up and down, fast and slow, exhillarating and disappointing,If we live long enough we learn to expect less and give more with the result that we gain peace and tranquility at some time. Many thanks for your comments.

Everyone who lives long enough gets a turn. They say wisdom comes with age but I think we realise we must accept what is, and so , acceptance comes long before any wisdom.

This is not as sad as some whose lives never change. My current life is pretty good, these things I write of were snapshots of those other times. Thank you for you comments and best wishes. I really appreciate them.

Wonderful write my friend... the true blessing is having someone there for you in those moments of up and down...
like your optimistic approach, me , cynicism reigns now and forever... wish I could see it as you, but alas I do not...

Life is like a wheel, my friend, 1 bottom, 1 top, and 2 middles. Logically you have to be in the middle more often that anywhere. Our attitude helps guide our lifes path, look for the positive and that's what you find, look for the negative and that's also what you find.
You path will smooth out as time goes by, just live in the now, today.
Thank you my friend for your regular support and comments.

Such is life! A very well known line from someone we all know, hey! I thought this was put together with great gusto and really told how things change over a period of time, and how people can change as life catches up on them. What once worried you seems like just a small thing now, but then, it was so unbelievably nauseating. I love the verses, the way they just sort of hopped along and the end line 'such is life' gave me a feeling of easy come easy go. You are brilliant at putting things together, Bob, and your knack for creating pictures in the mind and putting feeling into every word is astonishing. I wish you all the best in the contest. Fantastic. Don't change a thing. This rocks along!

Basically this is the story of my life put in a nutshell. All the pain, anguish, trauma and sadness is really water under the bridge now. Life demands that you live it or leave. I still live. Many thanks for your comprehensive comments, you help me a lot.

This is a quick look at the ups and downs of life. We all have them but usually we change how we look at life and become content with what we have in the end. I appreciate your interpretation of the poem and your supportive comments.

Narure is tempest and tornado and the sweet air the morning afterward...life never follows a straight line does it?

Tempest, tornado, storms, and tranquility. Mother gives a variety, so does life. We are the stronger for weathering all the storms.
      Thank you kind sir.

    Oh my...

Dear Poet...you paint several lifetimes...the strife...the staff...the woundedness...the woe...it's a long road my friend and its been a long walk...was shaking my head at the first stanza...sadly so sad when there is no balance when two separate...but my heart lurched at the loss of the child with an overdose...no one can prepare us to carry that cross...I extend my empathy across time and space towards you...thankfully the last chapter in your book of such is life contains the companionship of your beloved soul-mate...these are the days that all other days opened and closed towards...after all the highs and lows you now have a modicum of peace...no you are not rich but have at last a chance to be enriched by your precious partner as indeed she is by you...such is life and life is such...

One never expects to be preceded into the grave by one of one's own grandchildren.
There is a saying that "life was not meant to be easy, but if you hang in there, it will all come out right in the end." I guess I have had enough experience to know that it's pretty accurate. Many thanks for your extensive comments dear friend, and for the record, I am at peace with it all now. The turning wheel of life has me on top for a while.

Hi Julie, life sure does have its ups and downs. But the wheel of life keeps on turning and when you work it out you are on top, or on the bottom about the same amount of time, but you are somewhere in the middle at least twice as long. i thank you for your comments and applause and for you good wishes.

It's hard to understand the lessons of life at the time they are given to you; later on in life, hindsight gives you that understanding. Life is like a turning wheel, up down and in the middle, most times in the middle.

Yes, you painted the picture well and summed it all up. . .Such is life. Who was it. . .Jimmy Durante that said, "Don't grow old." and "It takes age to understand age." Ya live long enough you can say, "Such is life" and at the same time relax and feel blessed. Well done, Good luck to you,

Life is a mixture of ups and downs, hindsight shows that the up side is stronger than the down side. That's life. Your comments are appreciated very much.

Yes...such is life. Gosh you make it sound so pointless in the first three stanzas, I was starting to re-think my own life. lol. You deviated from your rhythm in the fourth stanza which put the flow out a bit, but I like how you ended on a positive note. Food for thought definately...alby

It's one of very few poems I have written to a prompt. Life for many is very depressing, so I found a happy ending for the poem. I appreciate your comment and thank you for taking the time.
