Isolated in Dark

"Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate."

* Translation: "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here." -
Dante Alighieri's Inferno (III, 9)
The torment of hell is to live isolated from the God denied in life.

*****************************************

I laughed, I smiled, No God, No God I cried
What right, what wrong I blurred what felt as one
Mire mixed with pleasure all life til I died

A lamb, a lion stood, one called the Son
"You goat move left! Now bow and bend your knee!"
My fate was set, I knew now I was done

"No God, No God", I cried, "Show grace to me!"
Too late I knew as his eyes looked away
My hope was lost, I could not be set free

Bound, chained to my sinful depraved lost way
My sense was numb, ears were deaf, eyes were blind
No more pompous haughty words would I say

Into the pit in which I would be confined
In black, I moved silent and all alone
Darkness over shadowed me from behind

No light but flame consumed my skin and bone
Tortured I burned alive isolated
Never to see God who reigned on his throne

Author notes

Written as Terza Rima which Dante used in the Inferno. Of course, mine is in English.

My Epigram "The torment of hell is to live isolated from the God denied in life."

Dante's Epigram:

"Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate."

  * Translation: "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here."
* Note: inscribed above the Gates of Hell in Dante Alighieri's Inferno (III, 9)

This was a good piece that stirred in an evocation of desperation. I also liked that you effectively employed Terza Rima even though the meter seemed forced in places. Powerful use of symbols -- especially in the second stanza -- and nothing too mundane to diminish its allegorical merits. All in all a good piece. Thank you for entering.

      Hell

Thanks for the read Michelle. Sorry for such a heavy depressing subject. It's part of reality.
