The heart can be an umbrella
to shield against the rage of showers,
cloak life in a garment
sheltering from pelting drops.
But you can still see the sky,
tell day from night,
look for the rainbow of promise
knowing how the storm
is only a breath on time’s lips.
How eyes can find a leathery gaze
that strength to not fear the flight of deluge
when it roars its liquid rage
across the skin.
Such iron in the soul will melt,
dissolve as if exposed to acid
should the sun slip behind a shade,
shrouding the vision until it can see
where the next hour will lead.
Uncertainty is a cruel trickster
ever skilled at crippling one’s hope,
turning the most season and weathered being
into nervous and anxious creature.
And when that moment passes,
you are never the same
having face the truth
we often don’t discover
from strolling on tempest illumined paths.

But you can still see the sky,
tell day from night,
look for the rainbow of promise
knowing how the storm
is only a breath on time’s lips.
