Wild Thyme and Sage

There were flowers in her hair that she had placed there carelessly
for the violets and maidenhair ferns grew abundantly
all around the mountain brooks she knew and gathering she went
to the borders of the streams where grew the flowers she'd invent

for she wasn't just content to weave them in her flowing locks
or to decorate her home with them or dry them between blocks
once she'd learned the common names of all and studied how they grew;
she would press them into poetry as something to renew.

        And the flowers that flourished there under her hand
        taking root in the ink grew to cover the land.

There were wreaths of woven wonder made of honeysuckle vine,
sprigs of everlasting, edelweiss, clematis, columbine.
There was babies breath and old man's beard all rolled up into one
of the volumes that reseeded like a packet in the sun

given water, air and breathing space, the gift of fertile soil;
cutting back and nipping buds, she pruned and weeded in her toil
til the blossoms that burst forth sent round a jubilee of growth
that could never be contained but by the fields or song sheet, both.

      And the blossoms she nurtured there upon the page
      found the wind that disperses with wild thyme and sage.

    I love flowers ....lol hard to guess since almost every poem has the word flowers or petals lol but I work in a floral dept and it is so calming and such a joy ...so this poem was just a breath of fresh blossomed air to me...Sigh~
